General

Lielvārde is located in the center of Latvia. The airfield is north of the city. During the Cold War, Lielvārde was an air base of the Soviet Air Force. Today, it is still used as a military aerodrome.

  • September 1979 - July 1981: 899th Fighter Regiment (899-й ИАП, MiG-21bis)
  • July 1981 - April 1993: 899th Fighter Bomber Regiment (MiG-21bis, MiG-21SMT, MiG-27D, MiG-23UB)
  • 1981 - July 1993: HQ of a Fighter Bomber Division
