Overview

Chelveston airfield was established during the Second World War as a base for US Army Air Forces (USAAF) bombers. After the war the airfield was reactivated in 1952 and used by bombers and reconnaissance aircraft of the US Air Force. At the end of the 1970s, the site was converted into a short-wave transmitting station for the RAF. Today the airfield is closed and the facilities have been largely dismantled.
